Robert Puruntatameri
- Robert Puruntatameri
- February - April 2011
- The first artist in residence for 2011 will be Robert Puruntatameri from Tiwi Islands. Robert is a skilled potter and decorator and last visited Strathnairn in 1996, when a group of TIWI potters painted their designs on the Olsen wood fire kiln. This residency has been planned to coincide with the Remote Communities Ceramic Network project at ANU Ceramics Workshop.
- Strathnairn Arts Association will facilitate collaborative work between Robert, Carol Williams and Carlene Thompson [who will be staying at the ANU] from Ernabella Community .This collaboration was requested by the artists during stage 1 of the Remote Communities Project (2009) which culminated in a wonderful exhibition at Watson Art Centre that was opened by the Chief Minister and several works were collected by the ACT Government.
- Strathnairn is thrilled to be a part of this ongoing project and very happy to host Robert Puruntatameri. We plan to have an open workshop for members and the public and there will be an exhibition of the work of the three artists at Strathnairn Gallery on the 9 April - 8 May 2011. This is an exciting project and one that will be of great interest to the general and arts community in Canberra.
